ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinical
Research Program:
The Student Clinician Research Program was initially a joint
venture between DENTSPLY and the American Dental Association in
1959. The program has expanded to include 35 countries
with 17 Student Clinician programs and over 5,000 student
participants.
The program in Australia began in 1982 with participation from
all Australian and New Zealand Universities. By 2009 we will
be welcoming the University of Fiji into the program. The
program is held every second year with final presentations made at
the Australian Dental Association National Congress and the winners
to be announced at a special DENTSPLY Dinner event.
The objectives of the program are:
- To promote, support and recognize dental research by students
and faculty advisors within all dental schools
- To provide quality standards and guidelines for the dental
schools in research, clinic planning and judging
- To help orient and educate the individual student clinicians
toward a successful career that includes dental research
- To provide SCADA Associates with a network and ongoing
opportunities for dental research
Eligibility:
To be eligible to participate in this Student Clinician
Research Program you:
- Must be selected through the university
- Must be an undergraduate at the time of presenting of the
clinic at the Annual Conference
- Must be a member of the respective Dental Association
Assessment:
For the Australian Student Clinician Program, judging is
undertaken by an independent panel of 3 people who have been
selected from a broad section of the profession. The research
will be judged on:
- Level of Assistance
- Subject Matter
- Presentation by the Clinician
- Table Display
Each student must present a table top demonstration that lasts
for no more than 10 minutes. Visual aids may be used to
supplement the clinic such as a poster and laptop computer.
Prizes:
If you are chosen by your university to be part of the
national competition and to attend the Congress, the following
prizes are offered:
- The ADA Congress registration fee
- Return economy airfare to the ADA Congress
- 4 nights accommodation
- A daily living allowance
The final winners are announced at a dinner hosted by DENTSPLY
at the ADA National Congress. The First Prize winner receives a
return economy airfare to the USA, 5 nights accommodation and
spending money. There is an opportunity to present your research at
the American Dental Association Congress. Second Prize winner
receives $500 cash.

part of the SCADA Alumni. This is a great opportunity to continue
networking with colleagues who have had similar experiences.
